Automated positioning of crane bridge and trolley

The primary objective of a positioning control system is to increase the productivity of weight-lifting operations using bridge cranes based on crane positioning real time data, thus helping crane operators to improve the quality of their work.

The use of positioning allows replacing the crane based on particular coordinates within the workshop using only the positioning system, absolutely operator unattended. In order to do that, an operator only needs to enter the load placement coordinates through the control panel and activate the required directive – and the crane will move to the required place on its own. It is also possible to transfer the end load placement coordinates through a particular High-Level Computerized Process Control System, a warehouse management system, for example.

Positioning control system enables:

  • Flexible position setting based on the technologic process requirements;
  • Crane replacement either along the three axes X, Y, Z, or along any of them individually;
  • Entering several load placement points, creating transportation job queues.

Dvesta offers several ways to organize crane positioning systems.

  • Based on Siemens Simatic FM 351 modules

FM 351 represents an intellectual module that allows resolving various positioning tasks for the drives equipped with standard asynchronous motors. Interaction with the drives is triggered through special contactors or frequency converters. The current working element coordinates are controlled using 5- or 24В incremental or synchronous serial (SSI) position detectors. The advantage of this system is the possibility to use it alongside frequency converters by any manufacturer.

  • EPos base positioning element

EPos base positioning element as a component of the Siemens SINAMICS S120 drive system represents a powerful and accurate positioning mechanism. Due to its flexibility and adaptive capabilities, this device can be used for a variety of tasks. The use of integrated positioning functions for Sinamics S120 helps avoid using programmed controllers.
